Ask your MP about the sewage in your river
In 2025 water companies discharged untreated sewage into England and Wales' rivers and coastal waters 363,995 times, for the equivalent of more than 103,000 days. Every one of those discharges was monitored, and the figures are published by the Environment Agency โ they are simply never put in front of the people who swim, row, walk and live beside the water. You have standing here twice over. As a constituent you can ask your MP where they stand. As a bill-payer you are a customer of the company doing it, with a right to complain and to escalate. This campaign does both, using the monitored overflow nearest to you.
What we are asking for
Ask your MP to back binding, dated limits on storm overflow discharges โ and complain, as a paying customer, to the company responsible for the overflow nearest you.
